Javier Martinez - Founder & CEO
Javier is Artifact’s founder and CEO, managing firm strategy and direction while overseeing all development efforts to deliver maximum investor return. Javier has worked on the acquisition, construction and operations of many large scale real estate transactions during his tenure at Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries, including global hotel, commercial and residential developments. Major projects include Faena Miami, Faena Buenos Aires and The Ocean Club in the Bahamas in addition to acquisitions of large and small companies including Warner Music Group, LyondellBasell, and Songkick, a music ticketing company. Javier has a Bachelor of Science from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Geoff Bartakovics - PARTNER
Geoff is an Artifact partner who ensures that firm strategy is achieved through operations and execution. Geoff is an experienced technology and media executive, having founded and led the foodie media brand Tasting Table since 2008, an early leader in native content advertising and influencer marketing. He has advised or sat on the board of dozens of start-ups and small businesses across a range of industries. Previously, Geoff was a Business Manager in mortgage-backed finance at UBS Investment Bank and a Systems Analyst at Deloitte Consulting. He graduated from The University of Chicago and was a Fulbright Fellow at The University of Hamburg.
ALESSANDRO CIMINI & IGNACIO LAMAR - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNERS
As founders of ELOD STUDIO, Alessandro and Ignacio manage all architecture and construction for Artifact. They have actively practiced architecture, urban design and interior design through ELOD in Harlem for over 15 years, bringing Artifact a critical blend of local knowledge and community familiarity. Alessandro has extensive experience with gut rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of nineteenth and early twentieth century urban buildings. Alessandro graduated from the Facolta di Architettura at the Universita degli Studi di Roma in 1997 and has an MS in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University. He was also a visiting Professor at the School of Architecture at Syracuse University in New York. Ignacio graduated from Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas in 1990 and has an MS in Architecture and Urban Design and Advanced Architectural Design, both from Columbia University. He was a Visiting Critic at Columbia University and Syracuse University School of Architecture in New York.
MANUEL CORDERO - CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER
Manuel is a native of Queens, New York. He began developing his construction expertise as an architect working on complex projects ranging from interior renovations for a major corporate headquarters to luxury condominium design. He has worked for Kohn Pedersen Fox as an Architectural Designer; at WeWork as an Architect Lead, managing engineers, designers, and contractors; and at Brandon Haw Architecture as a Senior Architect. Manuel obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Architecture from Columbia University and is currently registered as an Architect in the state of New York.
EDWARD YIM - CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER
Edward contributes over 10 years of experience to Artifact's construction management competency, with broad-based experience across the architecture, real estate development and construction management disciplines. His architecture and design experience allows him to understand design intent in each project, and his construction management and design/build expertise allows him to translate those intentions to the final product Artifact develops. He has worked with Stave Efrat Studio and Perkins Eastman as an architect, a design/build construction manager at CM & Associates, and most recently as a development manager for WeWork. Edward is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design and Harvard's Discovery Architecture Studio, and he has a double masters degree in Architecture and Real Estate Development from Columbia University.
Marcel beffort - PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Marcel Beffort’s running line is “I don’t do everything, but I’ll do anything.” To that end, he manages client and tenant service requests across The Harlem Collective and Artifact’s apartment portfolio. Part maintenance man, part customer service agent, part gardener and all know-it-all, Marcel works hard to keep the team young. He hails from Silver City, New Mexico. He graduated with a B.A. in Political Economy from Antioch College where he focused on ecological sustainability, studying subjects ranging from water management in the San Joaquin Valley to Nigerian oil politics to the socioeconomic effects of masculinity-based marketing in America.

AR Construction (All Renovation Construction LLC) is a NY State / NYC MBE certified full service General Contractor offering broad-spectrum of services to developers and residential clients. Since 2007, AR has specialized in high-end renovation construction projects and has a proven track record in the timely completion of full-gut landmark brownstones, townhouses and apartment renovations. AR also self-performs interior carpentry services for projects ranging 30,000 - 300,000 sq ft of rehabs and ground up projects lead by Prime General Contractors in association with HPD, DASNY, and non-profit organizations. AR's team has developed strong relationships with trusted subs and vendors since 2007 which ensures continued delivery of projects on time and within budget.
MADSEN CONSULTING ENGINEERING
Madsen Consulting Engineering is a Structural Engineering firm founded by Erik Madsen, PE and Cristian S. Vimer, PhD, PE. The team is comprised of eleven staff members, including five licensed engineers. The firm has extensive expertise with all types of new and existing buildings, including residential, commercial, educational, hotels, healthcare institutions, cultural projects and art installation. Madsen consulting Engineers also has deep experience with affordable housing projects funded by government agencies such as HUD or HPD and with projects that require approval from the MTA, DOT, PANYNJ or other government agencies.
J Pilla Group is a full service Construction Company providing site development, project management, and cost control to the public and private sectors. They have a background covering a wide range of residential, commercial, public, institutional, and infrastructure building projects throughout all of the New York City five boroughs. They also perform excavation, pile driving, and concrete forming, placing and finishing services. With over forty years experience in construction they have a solid financial position and credible track record with new construction projects and multi-unit gut rehabilitation projects, primarily in the public sector
